Too Easy Thanksgiving Dressing

Making a delicious Thanksgiving meal can be a lot of work. Relax and let your slow cooker do some of the work with this Too Easy Thanksgiving Dressing. While the turkey cooks in the oven, your side dish will cook itself in your trusty slow cooker. Easy to make and enough to feed a large crowd, there's a whole lot to love about this recipe for Thanksgiving dressing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 3/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 cans mushrooms or 1 container oysters
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 12 cups bread crumbs
  • 4 1/2 cups broth

Instructions

  1. Saute celery and onion in butter, then pour over the bread crumbs in a mixing bowl.
     
  2. Add all seasonings and mix well.
     
  3. Add the broth and mushrooms (or oysters), followed by the eggs. Mix well.
     
  4. Cook in a slow cooker on High for 50 minutes or on Low for 5 - 8 hours.

The times for cooking seem weird, only 50 minutes on high, but 5 hours for low?

Do you drain the mushrooms?

I also would like to know if you drain the mushrooms or oysters.
