Can I use anything besides the shortening for this dish? I try not to cook with it at all. I prefer to use canola oil to make sure that I am using a cholesterol friendly oil. I know some recipes have to use the shortening. Stroganoff is one of the most classic dishes I can think of that makes me feel warm and cozy.
