A great mortar and pestle, like this Vacu Vin Double Pestle and Mortar, allows you to grind herbs and create spice blends. This Vacu Vin take on the classic chef's tool has a double-sided mortar that allows you to grind a small or large amount of herbs and other ingredients. The white ceramic mortar also looks great with the wooden pestle.
I love that the mortar can be used on either side. The larger side, 100 mm, is comparable to a standard mortar and pestle. I really liked the smaller side, 54 mm, for crushing a small amount of herbs. It is also great for storing the pestle, and keeping it dust-free on both sides while being stored.
If you have every tried to chop and grind up your herbs using a spoon or knife, then you know how tedious and difficult this can be. Using a mortar and pestle makes this task a thousand times less aggravating. With just a few turns of the pestle, you can grind herbs coarsely or extremely fine.
This is a great tool to leave out on the counter because it has a classic, yet modern feel. The pestle and mortar also makes a great gift for any culinary enthusiasts in your life!
