Chocolate Sugar Cookies

These easy chocolate sugar cookies are a delicious twist on the classic holiday cookie. You still get the crisp-yet-chewy texture that we all love from sugar cookies, but you get the added bonus of a burst of chocolatey flavor. We're sure that these holiday cookies will be a hit with any chocolate lovers in your life.
Cut these chocolate sugar cookies out into cute shapes and then frost as desired! We love piping holiday-inspired designs onto these cookies to make them extra festive.

Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 sticks butter at room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 tablespoon cocoa

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Into a medium bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Set aside.

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment on medium speed, beat butter and sugar for about 1½ minutes, or until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula.

Turn the mixer speed to low and carefully add the flour mixture a little at a time, occasionally stopping to scrape the sides of the bowl.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured flat work surface to about ¼-inch thickness, using additional flour as necessary to prevent sticking. Use cookie cutters to create and place on cookie sheet.

Bake for 7-9 minutes.

Cool and frost!

Sugar cookies are always a favorite around Christmas time, but I love the idea of making a chocolate version for a twist on the original. Or, better yet, making a batch of these alongside a batch of regular sugar cookies. There is no such thing as too many cookies during the holiday season!
