Crunchy StarKist Tuna Casserole

Everyone has a favorite recipe for tuna noodle casserole, but not everyone knows about this crunchy variation. Crushed potato chips give this dish some spunk!

  • 1 6.5-ounce can StarKist tuna, drained
  • 1 1/2 cup frozen green peas, thawed
  • 1 10.75-ounce can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup cooked noodles
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 small package potato chips, crushed


  1. Preheat oven to 375F degrees.
  2. In a bowl, combine tuna, peas, soup, and noodles.
  3. Spoon into a greased baking dish.
  4. Moisten bread crumbs with melted butter; sprinkle over casserole.
  5. Top with crushed potato chips.
  6. Bake at 375F degrees for 35 minutes, or until bubbly hot.

Hmm, this is different. Tuna casserole is one of my all-time favorite meals that are a must in my world...but I don't think I've ever tried it with potato chips before and this crunchy version definitely has my curiosity peaked. I'm betting sour cream and onion or cheddar potato chips would take this over the top...Omg, I'm drooling just thinking about it!

Who doesn't love a good tuna casserole? They are cheap and easy to make and hearty enough to feed a hungry crowd. I never in a million years would have thought to top it with potato chips though! I am so excited to give this a try. I imagine that the potato chips give a nice salty and crunchy surprise. I just know that my fiance would just love this twist on a traditional casserole.

I am 62 years old and have been eating crushed Bar B Q Potato Chips on Tuna Noodle Casserole all of my life. The only difference with this recipe is the bread crumbs. my Mom always used shredded cheese, then the chips. BUT, it is a great recipe! Try it our way, you might like it too.

how much liquid do you add to this recipe.....I am looking for a good tuna that isn't dry.... Thank you anyone.....

Where can I find anything but a 5oz. can of Tuna?

I also wanted to say, be careful when buying your tuna. Many brands have switched to a 5 ounce can. Hopefully Starkist has not. It messes up a lot of recipes made for the 6.5 can. I prefer tuna in oil, drained of course, in casseroles as it imparts a better flavor to the dish.

This recipe brought back memories of home economics class back in the 50's. The whole class made this dish and also served and ate it. I also made it at home. It was delicious! I used to make my tuna sandwiches with chips too. I will be making this one again. Thanks!!
