Brazilian Pasteles

Brazilian Pasteles

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons lard
  • 1 3/4 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Serves: 4 people. Put flour into a bowl and cut in butter and lard until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add three fourths of the water and the salt. Mix to form a soft dough, adding more water if needed. Form into a flat cake and wrap in plastic. Chill at least 20 minutes. Roll dough out to 1/16 inch thickness. Cut into circles. Spoon desired filling onto dough circles, fold to form half-moon shapes. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes. Pasteles can be filled with roasted vegetables, meats, or fruits.
