Simple Shortcut Cinnamon Rolls

Enjoy the simple pleasure of making your own cinnamon rolls without having to spend all morning in the kitchen. With this recipe for Simple Shortcut Cinnamon Rolls you'll get that great homemade taste but in a lot less time. The trick behind this easy cinnamon roll recipe is using pre-packaged crescent rolls as your base and then creating the rest of the sweet treat from scratch. Your family will never know the difference, these cinnamon rolls are that delicious!

Chilling Time30 min

Cooking Time30 min

  • 2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 1 can vanilla frosting (optional)

  1. Unroll the dough from the packages into sheets. Gently separate each sheet into 4 rectangles and press together the perforated edges. You will have a total of 8 rectangles with the two tubes.
  2. Cream together the sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg until smooth.
  3. Spread each rectangle with 1/8 of the sugar-butter mixture and roll up like a jelly roll, starting with the short end.
  4. Chill for at least 1/2 hour, or overnight. The roll may be stored in the refrigerator for a few days before baking, if desired.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray.
  6. Cut each roll of dough into 6 equal slices. In the greased 9x13-inch baking pan, place the slices close together.
  7. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden-brown. The rolls may be served with or without frosting.
