Smoky Pepper and Onion Cheeseburger

"I typically use some sort of bread crumbs in my burgers. Sometimes it’s bread crumbs or sometimes it’s just crumbled saltines. But this time, I went big. I used French fried onions. Yup, the same French fried onions that go on top of green bean casserole. The smokiness comes from the bit of ground chipotle powder and barbecue sauce. Then add a pile of sauteed onions and peppers on this bad boy before serving, and it’s one epic summer meal. Happy grilling season, y’all!"

With the advent of summer and grilling season, I've been on the lookout for new burger recipes since I honestly believe one can never have enough burger recipes. I hadn't thought of using french fried onions in the burger instead of breadcrumbs, and it sounds like a really interesting idea. I normally use peppers and onions on my burgers, sometimes grilled, sometimes not, so this recipe is right up my alley. I'm definitely giving this one a try.

Burgers with sauteed onions and peppers are one of my favorite ways to fix burgers. When mixing cheese in with the meat before cooking, I prefer to chop up the cheese into small squares instead of using shredded cheese. Shredded cheese melts into the meat and sometimes out of the meat. I like tasting little bits of cheese here and there and cubing the cheese helps with that.
