Creamy Ground Beef and Noodles

This recipe for Creamy Ground Beef and Noodles is super savory and super simple! Sour cream and mushrooms really amp up this basic beef dinner.This is one of those great ground beef recipes that is full of flavor but takes such little effort!

  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 cups noodles
  • 3 cups tomato or V8 juice
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • pinch pepper
  • 1 can (6 1/2-ounces) mushroom stems and pieces
  • 1 cup sour cream


  1. Saute onion in butter until tender. Add meat; brown lightly.
  2. Place noodles in a layer over meat. Combine tomato juice and seasonings; pour over noodles.
  3. Bring to a boil; cover. Simmer over low heat 30 minutes or until noodles are tender.
  4. Stir in sour cream and mushrooms; bring to a boil. Serve hot.

This easy and quick to prepare, stovetop recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or when there is very limited time available to cook. The noodles are cooked with the other ingredients in one pot so this is very convenient. For this recipe, I would use lean ground beef, and after cooking it, drain the excess fat before adding the other ingredients. Egg noodles would be good in this dish. I would omit the celery salt, and use reduced sodium Worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, and lite sour cream.
