Sausage & Cream Cheese Bites “Donkey Balls”

By: Vicky Pietz from patternprincess.com
Sausage & Cream Cheese Bites “Donkey Balls”
Sausage Cream Cheese Bites Donkey Balls

"These sausage and cream cheese bites have a funny name “donkey balls”. However, they are packed with flavor and will soon become not only the talk of the party, but one of the requested recipes. This is a fun recipe to make for gatherings. The recipe is courtesy of my daughter. She made these for the first time when camping. Very easy to make and budget-friendly too. Try different dipping sauces. My husband and daughter opted for a dipping sauce. They came up with a concoction of 1/2 maple syrup and 1/2 barbecue sauce. They dipped their sausage and cream cheese appetizer in their sauce and loved it. For me, I will stick with the maple syrup."

NotesOther Ideas for Dipping: You may try our two options already mentioned. However, these may also be great with french dressing, teriyaki sauce, ketch up, or ranch dressing. Great without too.

Cooking Vessel SizeCookie Sheet

Ingredients

  • 2 packages Crescent Rolls
  • 1 (8-ounce) Package of Cream Cheese at room temperature
  • 1 (16-ounce) Package of Jimmy Dean Sausage or some other sausage that you like.
  • 1 medium Onion - diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 Fahrenheit. In a saucepan, cook the sausage, diced onion, and garlic powder until thoroughly cooked through. Make sure to break up the sausage in small pieces while cooking.

  2. Drain and cool.

  3. Add the cream cheese to the sausage mixture. Mix with a spoon until blended. Set aside.

  4. Open the first container of crescent rolls. Separate the first crescent and cut in half to make two triangles.

  5. Fill each triangle with a teaspoon of the sausage and cream cheese mixture. Then bring the sides of the crescent dough up and around the filling. Make sure to pinch together to seal. Continue adding filling to the rest of the crescents.

  6. Place on cookie sheet approximately 1 inch apart.

  7. Bake for 11-14 minutes or until the crescent is golden brown. No worries about the inside filling as that is already pre-cooked and safe to eat.

  8. Enjoy plain or with the maple syrup drizzle or some other dipping sauce.
