Old Fashioned Amish Walnut Bread

  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup shortening, melted
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a loaf pan.
  2. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
  3. Combing egg, shortening, milk, vanilla, and add to dy mixture. Sir until moist and add in walnuts.
  4. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake for 80 minutes.
