Hot Pretzels in a Bread Machine

When you go to the mall, you always smell those hot pretzels. Why not make them at home yourself? With this bread machine recipe, it's easy to make fantastic hot pretzels that are perfect for parties, tailgating, or just snacking at home.

Serves: 18

Ingredients
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon yeast
  • 4 cups water
  • 5 teaspoons baking soda
  • coarse salt (kosher or sea)
Instructions
  1. Put first six ingredients in bread machine pan and set for dough cycle.
     
  2. Cut dough into 18 strips and roll into ropes.
     
  3. Shape into pretzels, cover and let rise 45 minutes.
     
  4. Preheat oven to 475 degrees F.
     
  5. Bring 4 cups water and 5 teaspoons baking soda almost to a boil in non-aluminum pan.
     
  6. Gently place pretzels into water for about a minute, turning once.
     
  7. Remove pretzels and place on greased baking sheet.
     
  8. Sprinkle with coarse salt and bake at 475 degrees F about 12 minutes.
