Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 1/4 cups flour, divided
  • 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup caramel candies or bits
  • Caramel sauce (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F, and spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray.

  2. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter together with a hand mixer. Gradually add 3 cups of flour and mix on low speed until just combined. Shape into two equal-sized balls of dough.

  3. Press one ball of dough into the bottom of the dish, making sure to get all the way to the sides and each corner.

  4. Spread sliced apples evenly over the top of the dough.  Sprinkle with flour, cinnamon and sugar.  Sprinkle caramel bits over the apples.

This is like a combination of an apple pie and a caramel apple. It is the best of both worlds. Cream cheese pie crust is really good so I knew this crust and topping had to be good. Make sure you have something to drink so all that gooey caramel won't stick to your teeth. But, if it does, it will be worth it. This recipe is a keeper.

The whole idea of this Caramel Drizzled Apple Pie Squares recipe excites me. The recipe seems easy to follow, the ingredients are handy, how can you go wrong. I love the idea of cream cheese in the crust, the abundance of apples, and caramels. YUM! I'm with you Edmund K, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and I'm there!!

This is deliciously gooey and tasty. I love apple pie and this is a great variation. I was impressed with the amount of apples put into this. I might add some chopped walnuts on top of the apple layer or on top. This is a great dessert and one I know I'll be making again. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and I'm pretty much in heaven.

Apple pie is one of my favorite desserts but it takes forever to make and then after I've had my slice there's still a whole pie left. This is something I'll be fantasizing about until I get some apples so I can make it. Talk about super easy and indulgent...and how can you not love that it has cream cheese in the crust?
