Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line insulated baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

  3. Beat both sugars, eggs and vanilla on high speed until light and airy. Add melted butter and beat until well combined. Gradually add flour mixture and mix well. The batter will be a similar consistency to brownie batter.

  4. Cover batter with plastic wrap and refrigerate for two hours to firm up.

  5. From the dough, make one-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar. Place on baking sheet 2 inches apart.

  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Do not over bake. They will appear a bit glossy on top, so don't be tempted to bake much longer.

  7. Remove from oven and cool on pan 4-5 minutes then carefully transfer cookies to cooling rack to cool completely. Cookies will be chewy.

I have always known these as chocolate crinkle cookies. I like the snow added to the name because the powdered sugar makes it look like snow on the ground. These are cookies for the serious chocolate eater. My whole family loves them. They never last very long. They are also great to give out as gifts.
