Casserole dishes come in a variety of delicious flavors. Try our Crazy Noodle Kugel for a wonderful sweet blend that pays homage to the traditional dish. Try adding cottage cheese, nuts, or raisins before baking for a more eclectic flavor. Enjoy.

Serves: 8

  • 8 ounces medium egg noodles
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup Stonyfield lowfat plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup apples, chopped
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Boil noodles in salted water for 10 minutes then drain.
  3. Stir butter into noodles until melted.
  4. Add egg yolks and stir well. Add yogurt and stir well. Add sugar, raisins and chopped apples.
  5. Pour noodle mixture into a well greased baking dish, and bake at 400 degrees F for 1/2 hour or until top gets a light brown.

I have never eaten kugel, but after reading this recipe I am interested in trying this dish. This seems easy and quick to prepare. The list of ingredients sound rich and savory. I would probably use only 3 tablespoons of butter and reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup. The egg noodles should be drained when they are a bit underdone to ensure they are a good consistency in the dish because the pasta will continue to cook in the oven.
