    Ingredients

    • 1 stick butter
    • 1/3 c. flour
    • 2 c. sugar
    • 2/3 c. water
    • 1/3 c. cocoa
    • 1 tsp vanilla

    Instructions

    Butter a platter or pan and set aside. Cream together butter and flour in a bowl. Mix sugar, water and cocoa in a heavy sauacepan over medium heat. Keep stirring. Cook to soft ball. Pour boiling mixture over creamed mixture. Keep stirring. When butter streaks are gone, add vanilla and beat the dickens out of it. When the fudge loses its gloss and snaps at you, pour it into the prepared platter. Let cool completely, if you can wait that long, and cut into squares. Also makes a great fudgey frosting for brownies or cakes -- just cook it two degrees shy of the soft ball stage. If you like a darker chocolate flavor, increase the cocoa (up to double) and increase butter by 1-2 Tbl.
