Beat the Clock Goulash

When the clock hits five, and you don't have anything planned for dinner, there's no need to panic. Beat the Clock Goulash is a wonderful budget friendly recipe for ground beef that is ready in minutes. With a delicious flavor that will have you going back for seconds, it may become one of your favorite weeknight recipes. Simply add some noodles to the dish and you'll have yourself a hearty dinner for the family that took almost no time to make.


  • 1 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 diced bell pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 cans (15-ounces) stewed or whole tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 can (15-ounces) tomato sauce


  1. Brown ground beef in olive oil and drain of grease.
  2. Add all ingredients after meat is browned and let simmer at least 45 min for best flavor. If you want, add more herbs to your taste.
  3. Serve over some pasta, like rigatoni or large shells.

This sounds like a good comfort food recipe. There's something about a delicious home cooked meal that satisfies the entire family. When making this, I would use lean ground beef, and omit the olive oil since the meat will be drained after it is cooked. I would also use unsalted tomato sauce. The salt won't be missed because there are other seasonings in this dish.

I am a goulash fiend! My Mum used to make it all the time when I was little and I just can't get enough. If you want to bulk your goulash up and make it a little bit healthier, so can add in chopped carrots and potatoes, or frozen corn and peas. If you have a little bit leftover the next day and you want to stretch it into another meal, we oftern cook up the leftovers in a yorkshire pudding in a cast iron skillet or you can top it with some dumplings. Very budget friendly.

I like to use tomato sauce and elbow macaroni. I add fresh/frozen corn and green beans and top it of with four cheese mix. No left-overs!

I used to make this all the time for my then young kids, they love it, i use elbow macaroni & add it to the mixture at the end. It gives the noodles flavor, I also cook the peppers & onion at same time as meat. Then drain grease

If you pour off the grease after cooking the meat, does it matter if you use olive oil...?

I add a package of Enchilada Mix to my Goulash in lieu of all the spices and no peppers (they give me heartburn). I also use petite diced tomatoes-no chopping needed. I cook elbow macaroni and stir it into the beef mixture and top with cheese . Yummy!

It seems that there's always someone out there, who MUCKS UP a recipe by adding something south-western (Mexican junk) to it. The Enchilada mix didn't give you heartburn? Just thinking about it makes me queasy.
