Ingredients
- 1 batch pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1 cup giardiniera (mild or hot)
Instructions:
-
On a floured surface, roll your pizza dough out into a large rectangle. Top with a light layer of pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and giardiniera (drained of oil). Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into long strips, then into squares, so you end up with about 20 squares. Stack the squares onto each other, and stack into a greased loaf pan. It is ok if it gets messy! Cover the pan with plastic wrap and allow to raise for 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Bake for 25 minutes until the top is golden brown. Rest for 10 minutes before turning onto a serving platter. Serve with additional pizza sauce.

I haven't had giardiniera in quite a while and I'm pleased to see it used in this recipe. I like the fact that this is open to a lot of variation. At risk of overloading the bread, I'd love to include onion, green pepper, sausage, and ham (my favorite toppings) and lots of cheese. I'd definitely include some shredded cheddar along with the mozzarella cheese, since for me, the more cheese the merrier.

I love all sorts of toppings but my favorite are ham, fresh pineapple and green peppers. I also like anchovies and tomatoes, but those would go on a different pizza. i always make my own crust.

You asked for favorite pizza toppings? Garlic cream sauce with chicken, onions, black olives and a little sausage under the cheese. Now I want it.

Pizza is my favorite food in the world, so I'll take any excuse I can to try a new version. I loved how thick and soft the crust was. I could definitely see myself making this if I was expecting friends to come over to watch a movie and hang out.
