These sandwiches work well on their own for any potluck occasion, however, and are a great option for the holidays too. When you need something you can throw in the oven and get on the table quickly, prepare these Sympathy Sandwiches the night before, and you'll have a great meal, ready to serve in no time.

Ingredients

  • 1 package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon style mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Spray a 7x10x3-inch deep bake dish with cooking spray.

  2. Remove rolls from the packaging and slice them horizontally in half. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared bake dish. Layer cheese evenly over the rolls, then add ham and a second cheese layer. Add the tops of the rolls.

  3. Combine butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and mustard. Mix well and pour over the rolls.

  4. Cover with plastic wrap and chill overnight (or a minimum of 4 hours).

  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake the rolls for about 20 minutes, uncovered, and serve while warm.

My husband and I enjoyed the sandwiches with french fries for dinner today. We liked them. I made a half batch in my toaster oven.

The measurement for the Worcestershire sauce is 3 Tablespoons taken from a previous Recipe Lion recipe for Funeral Sandwiches.

Instructions say "Worcestershire sauce" but amount is not listed in ingredients!

This recipe has pretty much all my favorite ingredients in it. I can't wait to try it!

Worcestershire sauce is mentioned in the directions, but not in the ingredients. How much is needed?

This recipe is such a huge time saver for any occasion and I love that it can be substituted with probably just about anything you can think of to please your palate. For the holidays, I bet turkey with dressing and some cranberry sauce would be an amazing quick fix for your guests or just to have on hand so you can enjoy hanging out with the family and friends.
