Cottage Cheese Dessert (alivenca) Rumania


  • 2 pounds cottage cheese, drained
  • 8 eggs, beaten or 2 cups Eggbeaters
  • 4 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or cornflour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1 cup sour cream or imitation
  • 1/4 cup sugar


Beat the cottage cheese in a bowl until smooth. add the eggs and continue beating untill well mixed. add the corn meal, cornstarch, and salt and beat together. Preheat oven to 350 deg. Butter a 9 inch spring-form pan and pour the mixture into it. Dot with the butter. Bake in a 350 deg oven for 35 minutes or until delicately brown. remove the sides of the spring form. Serve hot, garnished with sour cream and sprinkled with sugar. Note: I prefer some crushed nuts with the sugar, added to the sour cream.
