SOS Creamed Beef
SOS Creamed Beef is an updated version of the vintage chipped beef on toast. Instead of using chipped beef, which is dried, smoked and salted, this recipe calls for the more common ground beef. It's more filling and less salty - a win-win. The author of this recipe calls it the dinner version of biscuits and gravy, and we couldn't agree more. If that appeals to you, then you have to give this budget-friendly dinner a try. It's a simple dish that is easy-peasy to make.

We found the taste of this dish to be very bland and tasteless so, at the end, we decided to add a little crushed garlic and one of the teenagers added a little chili powder. It helped add flavor but even then none of us thought we would want to make it again. (sorry nutmegnanny.com!)

I know that this is a popular dish that has been around for ages, but I just am not sure that I could make myself eat this. I wish I could even say that the pictures make this look so yummy. I guess this dish is just not for me. I am not against it per say because if a family member asked me to make it for them, I would be happy to do so.

This is an interesting variation on sausage and gravy as well as creamed chipped beef on toast. I've had both and liked them. My father used to make the chipped beef on toast and I got introduced to sausage and gravy when I moved to the south. This looks quite tasty and I want to give this a try. I'm used to fairly spicy sausage and gravy, so I'd probably add something to the ground beef when it was cooking. This'll make a nice change from our usual sausage and gravy.

This is top second comfort food (mac and cheese wins of course). My husband first made this for me when we were dating, over two decades ago. Wow this is good stuff! Add some mashed and green beans, and you have the complete meal. Sometimes I even make biscuits instead of toast, depends on what kind of mood I'm in. This is awesome either way!

This dish brings back a lot of memories for me. There was an elderly man my husband and I looked after from time to time, who was a cook for the navy during the Korean war. He always liked talking to me about the stuff he cooked, since I share a love of cooking. The day I graduated from college, we went over to check on him and he made this for me, along with homemade French fries. Good. Basic. Food!

This is a very interesting recipe. I can't believe something could be so easy to make. I am definitely going to make it. It is such a novel idea and yes, budget friendly. I would add cheese to this. I am sure it would taste absolutely fabulous with cheese.

I love this stuff. I grew up on hamburger gravy. Sometimes it was over bread and sometimes it was over mashed potatoes or even hash-browns . It is just comfort food to me. It is quick to make and is pretty filling. If I am low on time and hungry, this is always a good meal to make.
