German Style Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 (2-pound) head red cabbage, cored, shredded
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, quartered, cored, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon each caraway seeds and pepper

Instructions

  1. In Dutch oven or large pot, melt butter, add onion; saute 5 minutes.
     
  2. Add cabbage and apple. Saute 5 minutes until cabbage starts to wilt.
     
  3. In bowl combine water, vinegar and remaining ingredients.
     
  4. Add to cabbage mixture; cover. Simmer, stirring, 1 1/2 hours, until cabbage is very tender.

Hi Jim B - Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. There should only be 1.5 Tbsp of vinegar in this recipe. There was an error in the original recipe but we have corrected it. -Editors of RecipeLion
