NotesThis is a charcoal waffle with vanilla flavor. As the waffle comes out very fluffy and tasty, you just can’t make out the difference. Sufficient baking makes the waffles crispy and golden on the edges and airy, fluffy and spongy in the center.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups All purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 cups Almond milk, unsweetened or any other vegan milk
  • 4 tablespoons Sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons Baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Activated charcoal
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  1. Preheat the waffle iron and grease it with coconut oil.

  2. Combine the dry ingredients - Flour, sugar, and baking powder.

  3. Mix thoroughly in a separate bowl the wet ingredients - vegan milk, coconut oil, vanilla.

  4. Pour wet ingredient mix into the dry ingredients and stir it thoroughly until the batter is thick and flowing but not lumpy. Leave the batter in that condition to make it puffy.

  5. Scoop the batter in your waffle iron to fill its cavities and spread evenly. Heat the iron up for some time and get your waffles baked out Cook them a little longer, around 7-8 minutes, for crispy and golden brown edges.

  6. Serve waffles hot with coconut ice cream, maple syrup, or chocolate sauce for toppings or simply with white chocolate frosting.

I thought you were joking with the title. I had no idea these waffles really have activated charcoal in them. I used to use the stuff when I was a kid to help with ulcers when other medicine was too harsh. It does have wonderful acid absorbing properties. Do the waffles come out with a crunchy texture?
