Chili is perfect for a filling meal without a lot of fuss. Tavern Chili is a great recipe for this time-honored favorite. With a deep, smokey flavor this hearty dish is perfect for those frozen winter nights when snow makes you hide inside. Cumin and chili powder provide heat while beans and ground beef offer protein, which keeps you fuller longer. Serve in a bowl topped with cheese and some cornbread for a great dinner. Easily frozen, you can thaw this for chili dogs or tacos on a busy night. There are a variety of ways to enjoy this delicious chili recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes with juice
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 can of beer
  • 4 cups kidney beans
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 3 teaspoons cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons instant Masa corn flour
  • Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the beef and drain fat.

  2. Add and mix in remaining ingredients except Masa and cheddar cheese.

  3. Simmer for 2 hours, occasionally stirring and tasting.

  4. Stir in Masa to thicken up.

  5. Serve topped with cheese.
