What an interesting mix of Italian and Mexican flavors. I'm glad to hear that others have had good success with this dish. I'm not fully convinced that canned pasta (at least the ones I'm familiar with) are a good mix with the taco seasonings I use. I think I would use the refrigerated ravioli plus either making my own sauce or seeing how some of the jar sauces I like blend with the taco seasonings. I also think I'd make it spicier with adding some jalapenos or at least some Mexican blend cheese to the top.

My hub LOVES this! I like it too! Sometimes I'll add a can of drained corn or a can of drained black or kidney beans. Sometimes I'll put both. All depends on what my hub is in the mood for.

I made this, and, instead of a green salad alongside, for our "leafy greens", I had some leftover steamed spinach which I dropped by forkfuls on top of the ravioli before adding the beef mixture and cheese.

I have used frozen ravioli with about 16oz of tomato sauce and 10oz of salsa instead of the canned ravioli.

@pattih1956: I certainly think you could substitute frozen ravioli in this recipe. Make sure to cook the ravioli according to package directions before including it in the casserole. You will also want to add a proportionate amount of sauce to the casserole as a substitute for the sauce in the canned ravioli. Let us know how it turns out! -- RecipeLion Editor

I wonder if you could use frozen ravioli instead of the canned in this recipe? Although you won't get the sauce that comes in the canned ravioli, this might be a good alternative.

The sour cream worked very well with this. A glass of Sangria also was a good companion to this meal.
