This Starkrimson Pear Upside Down Cake is a beautiful fall dessert that will stand out at your next dinner party or potluck. This easy cake recipe features Starkrimson USA Pears with a light citrus touch from the lemon juice. The cake has a wonderful cinnamon flavor that comes through in each and every bite. The pears match perfectly with the cinnamon and brown sugar used in the base of the cake recipe. 

This is an easy dessert recipe that anyone can make without having special baking skills. It comes out of the oven looking and tasting like it came straight from a fabulous French bakery. The pears are arranged on the bottom of the pan end up creating a colorful and pretty design that stands out on any table. It makes for a fantastic after dinner dessert especially served with a hot cup of coffee.

Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened, divided
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 Starkrimson USA Pears, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • walnuts, to garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Combine flour with baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.

  3. Using an electric mixer, beat 8 tablespoons butter with white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture and milk in alternating order slowly, beating on low speed after each addition.

  4. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a large skillet in the oven. Remove the pan and add 1/4 cup brown sugar. Stir together and spread around the pan.

  5. Brush the pear wedges with lemon juice and lay the pear slices in the prepared pan. Spoon batter evenly over the pears in pan.

  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let cool for 30 minutes before inverting over serving platter. Decorate with walnuts and serve.

This is such an elegant dessert to serve and impress your guests at your next get together. It looks like it's taken all day to make and I'm sure the delicate flavor of pear will be sure to make anyone smile with envy.
