Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

This image courtesy of slowcookingkitchen.com

There's nothing better than having a great dinner paired with homemade rolls. Our Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls are a perfect flaky addition to your supper. Made in the bread machine for ease, they are then placed in the oven to rise and make one of the best bread recipes. Enjoy them warm and fresh right out of the oven with a touch of butter.

Notes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened, divided
  • 1 room temperature
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Attach kneading paddle to bread machine insert.

  2. Combine, in this order, water, 2 Tablespoons of butter, egg, honey, flours and salt.

  3. Level ingredients and dig a small well then add yeast. Set machine to “dough” and press start.

  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  5. With floured hands remove dough and place on a lightly floured surface. Tear off small pieces, about the size of mandarin oranges, and set in a greased 9x9” baking dish so that they touch. Bake for 12-15 minutes then cool, in pan, on wire rack.

  6. Melt remaining butter in microwave (about 25 seconds) and brush over tops of rolls before serving.
