Buttercream Frosting


  • 1 pound softened unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 C. half & half
  • 1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 1/2 - 5 lbs powder sugar


In 5 qt mixing bowl beat butter and shortening until fluffy and white (takes about 10 minutes), add 2 cups Half&Half and vanilla and mix in slowly. Slowly add powder sugar while beating on slow speed, 1/4 cup at a time until firmness desired. Will take at least 4 1/2 pounds of sugar.
