Crazy Creamed Cabbage

  • 1 small head of green cabbage or 6 cups shredded
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 stick butter or margarine
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour cream


  1. Coarse shred the cabbage to make 6 cups. Melt butter in large pan over medium-low heat.
  2. Add cabbage and cook and stir about 1/2 hour or until wilted and tender. Stir in salt, sugar, and lemon juice.
  3. In separate bowl mix egg and sour cream. Add mixture to cabbage and stir and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Next time I'll leave out the lemon juice. The sour cream should add just enough tartness/tang to make this better.

I have always loved butter fried cabbage with sugar & balsamic vinegar, but this sounds great. It will be big hit with my family!
