Kapusta I Groch (sauerkraut with Peas)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole yellow dried peas
  • 1 onion
  • 2 qts. sauerkraut
  • 3 dried mushrooms[ chopped]
  • 3 tb. butter

Instructions

Soak mushrooms for about 4 hours. Soak peas 10-12 hours, cook in water for 1 hour. Rinse and squeeze dry the sauerkraut, then chop. Cover with water. Bring to a boil. Add mushrooms and onion and cook for 1 hour. Add peas and cook for 1/2 hour more. Blend in butter, salt and pepper to taste.
