Better Than Sex Coconut Cake

  • 1 cake mix (yellow or white)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can Coco Lopez Coconut Milk
  • 2 cups flaked coconut (reserve 1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 8 ounces tub Cool Whip or Whipped Cream


  1. Make and bake cake mix according to instructions on the box using a 13" x 9" pan.
  2. While the cake is cooling, take a fork and poke holes in it.
  3. In a non-stick pot mix the sweetened condensed milk and the Coco Lopez and heat until it begins to boil. Drizzle over the baked cake.
  4. Scatter the 1 1/2 cups of flaked Coconut and nuts on the top of the cake.
  5. When the cake has cooled completely, frost with the whipped topping and add on the 1/2 cup of remaining coconut.

I have had the traditional version of this cake before, and was super happy to find a coconut version! The mixture of condensed milk with coconut milk give it a fantastic tropical feel. I like that I would prefer thee flavour of pecans, rather than walnuts on this cake. Either Cool Whip or regular whipped cream are great choices as toppings. Very yummy and great to serve at summer parties or potlucks!

This cake doesn't really need nuts.....But you could use walnuts or pecans....Whipped cream is the best....You can use dark chocolate cake or white both are excellent...where you don't see amounts listed it means use the whole can of cream of coconut and the whole can of condensed milk...Those are basic can sizes...I freeze this cake often it taste like ice cream to guests...This recipe was in a magazine a few years ago...Without nuts or pineapple that you see all over the internet...

I made this with pecans and let me tell you this is my favorite coconut cake. I made a small change to it I made a Cool Whip frosting with vanilla instant pudding and spread that over the cake before the coconut and nuts...OMG it is AWESOME!!! at room temp when you can taste all the ingredients that will melt in your mouth...yummy.

What type of nuts? All the recipe calls for is 1/2 cup nuts. PLEASE CLARIFY. Recipes lately have been missing a lot of info in the recipes, what's going on?? Thank you for your help!!

sounds like a great cake, BUT there are NO hints at the exact sizes of each ingredient - other than the 1/2 cup of nuts & 8 ounces of cool whip..also, is the flaked coconut sweetened..PLEASE CLARIFY...

My son loves coconut cake and I made this for dessert tonight when he came for dinner. FANTASTIC!!!
