Sweet Cornbread

If you're looking for an easy, basic sweet cornbread recipe, you've found it! This Sweet Cornbread recipe is a great one to bake with the kids, and the whole family will enjoy the fruits of your labors. Sour cream makes it more moist than other cornbreads, which is an unexpected element. Add it to a weeknight dinner this week, such as chili or a Southern meal. It can be enjoyed any time of year.

Serves: 9

Cooking Time: 30 min

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup corn flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup sour cream (can use non-fat)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a bowl, combine flours, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine egg, sour cream, milk, and butter. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  4. Pour into greased 8-inch square baking pan.
  5. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm.

Question: Is Corn Flour the sme as Corn Meal? Is it something like Masa Harina?

I've made this recipe many times over the years. Kids do love it - adults too. I use the no or low fat sour cream. It is hard to make a mistake with the recipe. It is so easy to make. And, it smells delicious while cooking.
