Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 can sloppy joe sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bag of frozen tater tots (28 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded

Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 pan and set aside.

  2. In a large skillet, brown the onion and ground beef until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

  3. Once the beef is browned, add to the skillet the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and salt. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Top with half of the Cheddar cheese, and then top with all of the tater tots. Sprinkle the remaining Cheddar cheese over the tater tots.

  5. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the casserole is bubbly and the tater tots are browned.

I never heard of tater tot casserole in my life before I moved to the Midwest from Florida! I love that this dish is pretty much impossible to mess up.

I could see this being a staple meal in our house. It is delicious and filling!

Mmmm, I love sloppy joes and wouldn't have thought to try this combination, but like the comment below me, it works so well! Perfect comfort food.

This isn't a combination I'd ever think to try, but it's hard to mess up any dish with tater tots in them, so I was on board. This was a great comfort food recipe that'd be especially tempting in the winter.
