I like that you put thyme in this recipe. I think that is one of the ingredients that sets it apart from meatloaf. I like to use a little sage and cumin in my salsburys. Is the thyme what sets it apart for you, or is more of the ground chuck?

This Salisbury Steak, The Way It Should Be recipe is absolutely the ultimate Salisbury Steak recipe. Admittedly it is not your throw together weeknight dinner, but it is a delicious Sunday dinner with the family where everyone sits around the table spending time. The recipe is not as complicated as it looks, and the flavors are out of this world. Definitely serve with mashed potatoes for all that delicious gravy. Make any day a special occasion with this wonderful recipe.

Most of my experience with Salisbury steak has been of the TV dinner variety. I know my mother cooked something similar to this when I was growing up, though using not nearly as elaborate a recipe as this one. This is more of a Salisbury steak for special guests than one we'd probably make for ourselves. I agree that a blend of beef and pork provides a better taste than just beef alone. The mushroom sauce looks delicious though it's a bit more involved than I'd like unless I was going all out for guests.

There are a lot of ingredients in this. It only makes five, but uses two pounds of meat. I would rather make more smaller patties. The sauce us fairly involved too. The mushroom gravy is pretty tasty though. This is a dish where you want to really cook and spend time in the kitchen. It's not really for beginners.

This is comfort food on steroids - especially if you like meat like I do. This recipe is a bit more involved and with more ingredients than I usually make, yet the end result really seems worth it. They say that combination of ground chuck, sirloin and pork is the key to the great taste and that would be something to try, since I usually use only one variety of meat in my meatloaf.
