All in One Shepherd's Pie

Make the traditional Shepherd's Pie recipe all in one dish. Meaty and topped with mashed potatoes, there's no denying it's tasty flavor. Add in your favorite vegetables to make it your own and enjoy this easy recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound stew meat
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper, coarsely ground
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 tablespoons brown gravy mix
  • 2 pounds cooked mashed potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives
  • 4 ounces Mozzarella cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. In Dutch oven, brown meat over medium high heat. Add garlic and saute 30 seconds (if vegetables to be used cook quickly, add onion with garlic and saute until tender).
     
  2. Add broth and spices to meat and simmer covered for 30 min. Chop and add veggies, simmer until tender.
     
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
     
  4. Mix 1/2 cup water and gravy mix in bowl. Add to mixture and simmer 5 minutes. Mix chives and cooked mashed potatoes.  Place on top of mixture in Dutch oven. 
     
  5. Sprinkle with cheese and bake until golden brown.

ai think a quart of oil is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a very strange recipe. It is difficult to follow. #4 and 5 don't make sense. Are you simmering the veggies before putting the dutch oven in the oven? If I were to try and make this recipe, I think I would have to come up with my own directions.

1Qt. Of oil???

In the above recipe for All in One Shepard Pie, the second ingredient calls for one quart of oil. Can you please tell me what the oil is for? Thank You, John Layton

I've made many a shepard's pie, I doubt they meant a quart of oil....you probably just need a few tablewspoons to brown the stewing beef. If you notice there is no oil mentioned in the cooking instructions. The rest of the recipe looks pretty much standard. Hope this helps.
