German Cinnamon Apple Cake
German Cinnamon Apple Cake

Apple kuchen, or apple cake, is a classic German dessert. It's delicious! German Cinnamon Apple Cake is a tasty vanilla cake topped with warm Granny Smith apples. A light dusting of cinnamon sugar and a sweet glaze complete this lovely cake. Apple cake is much easier to make than apple pie and less messy to eat, which is a win-win for you! Just imagine the wonderful aroma of cinnamon and apples baking in the oven. This amazing apple dessert is the best part about baking in the fall (or anytime you're craving apples).

Could I use a whole wheat flour in this recipe instead of the all-purpose? I am supposed to get away from using the white flour and go with more whole grains especially in my baking. I think that the wheat would go well with the cinnamon spice and apple flavors.

I love apple cake in all its varieties, and this is different from the ones I'm familiar with and have baked. In mine, the apples are incorporated into the batter, and aren't a separate layer. I'm also not sure why this needs to be refrigerated since the apple cakes I've made have stayed moist for several days (when they've lasted that long) wrapped with plastic wrap outside the fridge. This is one I definitely will try making.

I love apples, sugar, and cinnamon. This will be a great breakfast and dessert with coffee. Granny Smith apples are my favorite. I don't think I've ever baked with them. Can't wait to make this!

I am not exactly sure why it needs to be stored in the fridge. Baked fruit pies aren't so I don't see the difference. The apples make the cake moist and flavorful. And they look so pretty on top of the cake like that. The cinnamon and sugar brings out the apple goodness.

I think the real German name for this cake would be Apfelkuchen. I think it looks delicious. I love Granny Smith apples. It is easy to eat and not messy and I am definitely going to make this. I want it for an easy to grab breakfast on my way out the door to work. I will eat in on my commute to work with a nice cup of coffee. I can smell that cinnamon already!

Here's a helpful tip...I tried using 2 tsp cinnamon instead of just 1 and the cake turned out even better!
