Shoo Fly Cream Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pastry for a deep, one-crust, 9-inch pie
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup dark molasses
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup flour, sifted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Pour boiling water over the baking soda in a bowl and stir in the molasses.
     
  3. Pour molasses mixture into the pie shell.
     
  4. Mix the flour, brown sugar, shortening, and salt  into crumbs and sprinkle over the molasses mixture.
     
  5. Bake pie at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes.
     
  6. Let cool and slather with whipped cream.
