Shake up your usual holiday menu with this recipe for Roast Turkey Breast with Smoked Sea Salt and Brown Sugar Rub! With its use of an assortment of herbs and seasonings, this easy turkey recipe will check all the right boxes. The recipe is easy to make, it's the perfect size for a smaller gathering, and it doesn't hold back when it comes to flavors. If you're lucky enough to have leftovers after your big holiday dinner, then you will be rewarded with tender and delicious slices of turkey for sandwiches and other favorite dishes that use leftover turkey.

Ingredients

  • 6 1/2-7 pound whole turkey breast
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked coarse sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Set oven rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. Lightly oil a Circulon 16.5-inch x 14-inch Roaster with Self Rack. 

  2. Rinse turkey and pat dry with paper towels. Rub butter all over turkey. 

  3. Combine the sugar, salt, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl; rub mixture over turkey skin. 

  4. Place turkey breast, skin side up, on the self rack. Pour 1 1/2 cups water into the bottom of the pan. Roast turkey breast 1 hour; if turkey skin begins to brown too quickly, then cover it loosely with a sheet of aluminum foil. Baste the turkey with pan juices. 

  5. Continue to roast the turkey an additional 45-60 minutes, basting every 15 minutes, or until an instant read thermometer inserted into the thickest portion of the breast registers 165 degrees F. 

  6. Remove turkey from the oven and let stand 10-15 minutes before slicing.

It's never occurred to me that turkey can take on sweet as well as savory rubs and I don't remember ever having tried any other way than savory but this sounds like it would be amazing on sandwiches. As much turkey breast as I like to cook this would be a nice change from the norm. The bacon is a great idea FoodLover...and I'm thinking it'll complement the turkeys' sweet rub perfectly.

I cook the turkey every year and I make it the same every time. I cover it in streaky bacon to keep it moist whilst it's roasting which turns out quite nicely. I love this rub and think it will take a traditional turkey to another level. I will definitely try it this year for something different.

This recipe sounds wonderful. Will try. Would be hard to surpass deep-fried turkey.

I love the traditional stuffed turkey with sage, poultry seasoning, onion, bread crumbs, other added spices, and butter melted in water...I never put dry stuffing in my turkey and it always turns out great. Baked in a 350 degree oven and hour per pound so it falls off the bones...great with creamed potatoes, vegies and a salad. I make my gravy from the leftover juices and scraps from the turkey.

I like to convection bake my turkey because then I get the juices to make homemade gravy.

I love to do turkey in a smoker after marinating it in a variety of different marinades.

As I live alone this sounds perfect for one or two persons as well! Cannot wait to try it. Thank you.

Baked in the oven in either a browning bag or covered with aluminum foil on low heat overnight.

I use Mom's Roast Turkey recipe from Simply Recipes! Roasted breast side down. We love it. So tender and moist!

I bake it in a covered pan until it falls off the bones. Fresh lemon thyme is a great addition during baking, though we frequently forget it.

I like to make my own stuffing and gravy. I serve my turkey with mashed garlic potatoes and lots of vegetables on the side. While cranberries are always a favorite.
