Applesauce Cake

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup shortening
1 cup herman (friendship starter)
1 1/2 cup applesauce
1 3/4 cup all-purpose white flour
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup walnuts, broken
1 cup raisins
3/4 teaspoon rum flavoring (optional)
2 eggs

Instructions

Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and mix well. Add Herman and applesauce. Beat on high for 2 minutes. Sift together flour, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, baking soda salt and baking powder. Add to first mixture and beat well. Stir in walnuts, raisins and rum flavoring. Pour into well-greased and floured tube pan. Bake in 350F oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
