Hearty Soup Mix in a Jar

Hearty Soup Mix in a Jar

Can't quite decide on the perfect holiday gift for your favorite gourmand? Make this lovely gift in a jar, and you not only have a pretty present to give, but a delicious one as well! Hearty Soup Mix in A Jar is easy to prepare. Just layer the dry ingredients in a canning jar and attach the soup recipe. When it's time to make the actual soup, that's when you cook the ground beef and pasta. This fun soup recipe is a unique gift and a lovely dinner.

  • 1/3 cup beef or chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1/4 cup onion flakes
  • 1/2 cup split peas
  • 1/4 cup barley
  • 1/4 cup lentils
  • 1/4 cup rice
  • multi color spiral pasta
  • 1/2 cup small shell pasta and elbow macaroni

Use a one quart canning jar and layer ingredients in order given, filling up with multi color pasta.

To make the soup:

  • Brown 1 pound ground beef in olive oil.
  • Remove multi color pasta, small shell pasta, and elbow macaroni and reserve.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the kettle with 12 to 14 cups of water. Let it come to a boil, then simmer 45 minutes.
  • Add the pasta and simmer 15 more minutes, or until cooked through.

This recipe makes enough soup to feed a family of 4.

I never actually thought to meal prep soup in a jar! Typically, I would make a big batch of soup in my crockpot and freeze most of it in portions in ziploc bags. But these jars mixes are really cute and shelf stable! Plus, they would make such a nice and sophisticated gift!

I love having these. I make a lot of soup jar mixes. I keep them for days when I don't have time to cook, or when I don't have anything planned. They are also wonderful for cold days when all you want is to be warm. This one tastes wonderful! The smell that fills the house is absolutely amazing! It's definitely a keeper to add to my pantry!

I love these types of gift ideas! Who wouldn't enjoy receiving a yummy gift like this? I like that I could adapt it to make it vegetarian by substituting vegetable bouillon cubes and omitting the beef from the instructions. I plan on making a few of these for gifts and few for myself!

I don't see any amount of liquid to make this. Did I miss it?

Due to technical difficulties, the instructions disappeared from this page. They are back today, and you can see how much liquid is needed. Thank you for your patience.

Oops, didn't read far enough down NVM.

this sounds good but you could also use a can of chicken for a quick soup

Did this get mixed up with the soup in a jar??? You don't even talk about the ground beef in the recipe...

The ground beef listed below the main recipe is to give you an idea on how to turn this soup mix into soup. Hope this helps! - RecipeLion Editors
