Horseradish Roast Beef Special Sandwich
Get the classic deli taste of a roast beef and horseradish spread sandwich with this simple homemade recipe. Just mix up the spread, build the sandwich and broil to perfection.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup dairy sour cream
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
- 8 slices sourdough bread
- 12 slices roast beef
- 8 slices ripe tomato
- 12 slices cucumber
Instructions
- In small bowl stir together all spread ingredients.
- In small bowl stir together butter and garlic. Spread 1 side of each slice of bread with garlic butter. Place on cookie sheet. Broil 5 to 6" from heat for 3 to 4 minutes or until bread is toasted.
- To assemble each sandwich layer 1 slice bread with 3 slices roast beef, 2 slices tomato and 3 slices cucumber. Spoon about 2 tablespoons spread over cucumbers. Top with 1 slice bread.

I'm going to try these out tomorrow. The horseradish sauce looks great. I've found a couple of commercial brands I like, but there's nothing quite like a homemade version. I like the addition of Dijon mustard to the sauce. It gives it a really nice additional level of taste. I appreciate the idea of basically serving them on garlic toast. I could see adding a slice of mild cheddar to the sandwich as well.
