Olive Garden style Black Tie Mousse Cake

This copycat recipe for Olive Garden-style Black Tie Mousse Cake is as decadent and delicious as the real thing, but easier and cheaper to make!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup black coffee
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Sift first 6 ingredients together in large bowl. Add eggs, coffee, milk, vegetable oil and the 2 teaspoons vanilla extract; blend until smooth.
     
  3. Pour thin batter into a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Bake for 35 minutes.
     
  4. Meanwhile, cream butter until soft and sir in confectioners' sugar, the 1/8 teaspoon salt, the 3 tablespoons milk, and the 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy adding more milk, if necessary.
     
  5. Spread over warm cake.

made 4 cakes for OliveGardn servers,managers and church dinner people wanted receipe found cake was not getting done in middle cooked in glass 13x9 @325 deg for 45 min didnt crown as much in middle all of the cake was eaten with compliments requsting receipe

80 yr old man made the cake gave it to servers staff at olive garden comment was delicious but rich moist i had to try it agree ate two pcs even tho diabetic cooled the cake in refrigerator and freezer to hurry up cooling, texture of cake was good i mixed dry together before adding wet ingredients pretty good for an old man huh?

This was awful!!!! This cannot be classified as mousse cake whatsoever. It was chocolate bitter cake that fell apart and the stuff on top tasted like the icing you put on a donut. Absolutely horrible. How in the world did this recipe make it on here? I sure hope an editor tries it out to see my point and deletes the darn thing.

What do you do with the extra vanilla extract (3 teaspoons)?
