Walnut Filled Banana Bread

Walnut-Filled Banana Bread is an easy banana bread recipe perfect for walnut lovers. For those who prefer to leave the walnuts out, it's still a great banana bread recipe.

Cooking Time1 hr

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening (half butter, half crisco)
  • 3 ripened bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Cream the first six ingredients in mixer.
     
  3. Add flour and baking soda to creamed mixture. (Nuts are also added if desired.)
     
  4. Pour dough in greased loaf tin.
     
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-60 minutes. Yields one loaf.

Add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp fresh nutmeg. Reduce fats by up to 1/2 by adding extra banana mash if you want for more healthy loaf.
