15-Minute Pasta Sauce

This pasta sauce recipe for 15-minute Pasta Sauce is just what you need for a quick and easy tomato sauce that isn't from a jar! It's so easy to whip together and tastes much better than the store-bought kind. You can make a larger quantity of the sauce and save some for later. Serve it on pasta or any dish that calls for pasta sauce.

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled, smashed, and minced
  • 1 small green pepper, without the seeds, chopped
  • 2 large cans tomato sauce
  • Olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms
  • 2 small zucchini, grated coarse
  • red wine, to taste (optional)
  • 1/2 tablespoon each of marjoram, basil, parsley, savory, black pepper, oregano and nutmeg
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese (optional)
  1. Sautee onion, pepper, and garlic in olive oil until soft, then add tomato sauce.
  2. Add marjoram, basil, parsley, savory, black pepper, bay leaf, oregano, and nutmeg. Let simmer on low.
  3. Add mushrooms, zucchini, and a splash of red wine. Add Parmesan cheese a few minutes before serving. If you like it thicker, add a small can of tomato paste.

Homemade spaghetti sauce is so much more delicious than the jarred variety. It is worth the effort making your own from fresh ingredients. It is so convenient when the sauce can be cooked in a short amount of time. This particular sauce seems interesting with all the vegetables and seasonings.
