Old South Chocolate Pecan Brittle

A classic country treat, this Old South Chocolate Pecan Brittle is one of those desserts you can't help but crave. With just a few basic ingredients in the mix, this simple as can be recipe for brittle comes together in mere minutes. Best of all, you don't even have to turn on your oven or stove to make this traditional Southern dessert recipe. Using just your microwave, you can create one of the best country treats of all time. Salty and sweet and positively addictive, this brittle is always a hit with any crowd, no matter where they're from!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate pieces

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup and salt in a 1 1/2 quart glass bowl or casserole dish. Microwave on HIGH for 4 minutes.
     
  2. Stir in pecans. Microwave on HIGH for 4 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring every 2 minutes.
     
  3. Add butter, vanilla and chocolate; stir until chocolate is melted.
     
  4. Pour mixture onto greased baking sheet, spreading as thin as possible, using 2 forks.
     
  5. Cool and break into small pieces.
