Spicy Mexican Red Sauce

How about making some authentic Mexican sauces? Try the Spicy Mexican Red Sauce! It will heat up the atmosphere and bring "explosion" to your taste buds. Feel the heat!

Ingredients

  • 2 large can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste (small)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro (leaves only, chopped fine)
  • 1 lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 medium jalapeno, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend till smooth.
     
  2. Pour into a medium sauce pan and add 1/2 cup water.
     
  3. Bring to a very lower simmer and allow to cook through for about 20 minutes.
     
  4. Makes an excellent topping for enchiladas, tamales, and Mexican chicken casseroles.
