Basic Eggnog

I love having Eggnog around the holidays. Every Christmas we make the best batch of it. It wouldn't be Christmas without it. The Nutmeg is the best part!

Serves: 1

  • 2 to 3 ounces brandy or light rum
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • Nutmeg
  1. Combine all the ingredients except the nutmeg in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
  2. Strain into a tall glass.
  3. Grate a little nutmeg on top.

Breakfast Eggnog: Use 2 ounces brandy. Add 1/2 ounce curacao and omit sugar.

I've been looking for a simple eggnog recipe and this recipe looks simple and yummy. I love nutmeg so would probably add alot more freshly ground eggnog! Since there is egg, I'm wondering if i can make this ahead and keep it in the fridge, or should it be made and consumed immediately?

I believe I am the only person in the world that has not tried eggnog. I guess the thought of drinking egg and alcohol just does not sound very good to me. It looks delicious, but I guess I need to get past what is in it and just try it.

HAVE Egg-Nog Recipe, if anyone is interested...Fantastic Recipe has been in family cookbooks for over a hundred years...only thing..DO NOT Guzzle, or you will find yourself sitting down quicker than expected..LOL Dozen and Half LARGE EGGS... Separated... 2 Heaping Tablespoons Granulated Sugar ( per yolk) mix sugar and YOLKS together in a LARGE BOWL 1 QUART ( THAT'S RIGHT a WHOLE QUART) of Rye Whiskey ( NO BLENDS) MIX SUGAR AND YOLKS AND LIQUOR TOGETHER TILL SUGAR IS DISOLVED... NEXT WHIP EGG WHITE TILL AS STILL AS YOU CAN GET THEM..( add a 1/4 Tsp Cream of needed... NEXT COME THE FUN.. MIX IT ALL TOGETHER WITH A LARGE WHISK... NOW POUR IT IN A GALLON JUG ( MILK JUGS WORK BEST ) I cut the top off of a 2Liter soda bottle...(CHEAP QUICK - AVAILABLE) now everyday for the next week...twice a day...take the JUG and SHAKE VIGOROUSLY... ( idea is trying to break down the air in the eggs whites so it will thicken properly) adding a little Half-Half..( or WHIPPING CREAM -- your call ) at the end of the weeks shaking, there should be almost a whole gallon of incredible EGG-NOG.. you might have to add maybe 2 qts, of either Half-Half or Heavy Whipping Cream, again -- your call...Drink ( SIP..!) and enjoy...MERRY CHRISTMAS...This ought to give you all the Christmas CHEER you'll need.. ENJOY.!!!

what is 'curagao'? Can't find it anywhere.

Believe it should be "curacao", an orange-flavored liqueur.

try curacao, can find it in any liquor store.....great in christmas recipes..ENJOY......MERRY CHRISTMAS

awesome and yummy!
