Sweet Apple Pie

This recipe calls for a pie even sweeter than most. Sweet apple pie is a traditional, easy apple pie recipe that will be a breeze to make and eat.

Cooking Time1 hr


  • 4 large tart, crisp apples
  • 4 large sweeter apples (not mealy ones, though)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon mace
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice, strained
  • 2 double pie crust, unbaked
  • 1 teaspoon cream
  • 1 egg yolk


  1. Peel, core and slice apples, placing them in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix sugar, flour, mace, cloves and cinnamon.
  3. Add sugar mixture to the apples and mix well.
  4. Mix melted butter and lemon juice and pour this over the apples.
  5. Mix well and let sit for at least 20 minutes while you prepare the pie crust.
  6. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  7. Prepare top and bottom crusts.
  8. Mound filling into pie shell, piling apples high, and affix the top crust.
  9. Slash top crust a few times and brush with glaze mixture of egg yolk and cream.
  10. Sprinkle granulated sugar over.
  11. Bake pie at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes.
  12. Turn over down to 375 degrees F and bake about 35-45 minutes more, checking frequently to make sure crust doesn't over brown.
