Nutty Apple Pie

Are you looking for an easy apple pie recipe that packs some crunch? Try this nutty apple pie recipe which incorporates nuts and dried fruit for an exotic twist on the American original.


Serve with fresh cream.


  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 5 tablespoons tbs ice water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 10 apples
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon corriander
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup nuts (almonds, walnuts, filberts or pecans)
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, apricots, mangoes or figs)


  1. Mix butter, sea salt, water and flour together until dough forms an elastic ball.
  2. Peel and dice 10 medium apples and pour the juice of 1/2 a lemon over them to prevent browning.
  3. Add  honey, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  4. Add chopped nuts small cut dried fruit.
  5. Add finely sifted whole wheat flour and blend all the ingredients together.
  6. Take half the pie crust dough and roll a bottom for your pie dish, overlapping the edges slightly.
  7. Fill in the apple mixture and cover with the rolled out remaining dough.
  8. Trim and seal the edges with a fork, cut a vent into the center and bake at 380 degrees F for 30-45 minutes.
