The Perfect Creamy Dessert Bar is the best way to enjoy the sweetness of summer. Made with creamy yogurt and sour cream and a touch of lemon and vanilla, these dessert bars are just what you need to beat the heat. The real reason we love them so much is that they almost taste like ice cream bars when you keep them cooling in the fridge until you're ready to eat them! Make these delicious and easy dessert bars any time you're craving something cool, comforting and creamy.


  • For the dough:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 stick butter (room temp/slight melted)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • For the filling:
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2 cups regular or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup strawberry yogurt
  • 1 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour (heaping)
  • 1 orange zest
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


  1. For the dough: Mix all ingredients just until combined. Do not over mix. Divide in half. 

  2. Spread half on the bottom of your baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F in a preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes. Cool slightly.

  3. For the filling: Whisk egg whites until stiff peaks are formed.

  4. In a large bowl, mix yogurt with sour cream, sugar, lemon zest, vanilla, and flour. Gently fold in egg whites. 

  5. Pour filling on the baked dough. Take the other half of the dough and crumble it over the filling.

  6. Bake for about 30 more minutes until top is golden. Check with toothpick for whether the filling in the middle is cooked.

  7. Cool to room temperature and leave in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Serve chilled.

Wow, this recipe looks so delicious that my stomach is grumbling already! I would love to make this as my after-dinner dessert!

This dessert looks really good. Anything with cream in tastes good and lifts it to another level. I love creamy desserts. I would love to try this. I think with sour cream and yoghurt as well as the lemon zest give this dessert a bit of a zing which I think I will like very much!

What a dreamy creamy delight this recipe is...I just love desserts with crumble topping baked into them. The orange zest I'm thinking would probably be best in the topping with a touch of cinnamon and I'd definitely puree some fresh fruit in place of the flavored yogurt to give it more natural flavor. Greek yogurt is yummy all by itself so I'm thinking any fruit would compliment it, I'm thinking peaches...Yum!

I recently had a refrigerated yogurt bar that I got from Kroger that had a taste very similar to this. It was chocolate covered, but the yogurt filling was very close in taste, especially with the tangy flavor it provided. It's really easy to make up, and I'm going to try it out again with some different flavored yogurts. I think peach or blueberry would be quite nice used in this dessert bar.

These bars seem like they would be a great dessert for the summertime! Instead of adding lemon zest, I would like to try these as just plain cream bars. Also, I recommend using a flavored yogurt to create a new dessert every time! Fruit flavored yogurts would work very well. I'd also add some oats or chopped nuts on top for some crunch.

I've noticed that the British baking shows are a bit more precise in measuring than their American counterparts, preferring to weigh each ingredient. Investing in a kitchen scale is highly recommended. Even the inexpensive ones supply accurate measures and it's easy to switch between grams and ounces. The recipe does include American equivalents, so it's not hard to follow and turn out some yummy cream bars.

I have a baqlava imagination in my head,please If I asked the cooks don,t do similarised recipes.Specially for sweets

I believe the pan is a 9 x 13 in ch baking pan, but you can contact the blogger to know for sure.
